Admissions guidance and application process for
St. Luke's CEVA Primary  School.

St Luke's Primary School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided school which means we are our own admissions authority. However, to ensure continuity across the borough, we follow the London Borough of Newham’s admissions processes.

The staff, governing body and pupils of St Luke's Primary School would welcome you applying for a place at our school.  To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below (nursery applications are a separate process. You apply direct to the school - see section on Nursery Admissions).

You will need to apply first through the London Borough of Newham and then direct to the school. Follow the step-by-step guide and links below. If you have any questions about the procedure, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Please Note:
Although a Church of England (Christian) faith school,
St Luke's accepts applications from all faiths

Reception Admissions for September 2025

We are going to school
(a brochure outlining all your needs for starting school)

If your child was born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, you will need to apply for a reception class place in an infant or primary school for September 2025.

The National closing date for on time reception applications is 15th January 2025
The National offer date for on time reception applicants 16th April 2025

All reception 2025 applications must be made through the family’s home local authority. So, for children living in Newham, families must apply via London Borough of Newham. However, for children living outside Newham, whose family wants them to attend this school, their application must be made through their home borough naming this school as a preference on their application.

Remember, you must always apply for a place, even if your child:

  • Already attends the nursery of your preferred school
    OR;
  • They have a brother or sister who attends the schools

Before submitting a reception application we strongly recommend all families read the autumn 2025 edition of the local authorities ‘Starting Primary School’ guide and find out information about the school you are interested in.

For admission to St Luke's school, for entry from September 2025, please read the following:

Link to Pan London eAdmissions portal (September 2024-25 reception applications). If you are not registered, you must do so here before you are able to continue! See the guide below that will help explain the signing up process).

Supplementary Information Form (SIF) - (VERY IMPORTANT!)
As part of St Luke's admission arrangements we require you to complete a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) if an applicant wants their child to be consider under our faith based criteria (priority groups).  If an applicant does not complete and submit a SIF or does not want to be considered under our faith based criteria (priority groups) the child will be automatically added to the lowest priority group when we rank the applications.

You can fill out the form online here: https://forms.gle/iz7EGPRTku1NUun87

Please Note: A SIF is not an application form so cannot be considered unless an application is made to your local authority.

Deadline for on-time Supplementary Information Forms (SIFs) – To be handed into school office by 15th January 2025

In-Year Admissions into Primary school
(aka 'mid term' or 'mid phase' admissions)

(Definition)

Starting Primary School: "We are Going to School"

Fair Access
The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP), agreed with the majority of schools in its area to ensure that for In-Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible.  In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school - including those with available places - is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour. St. Luke’s CEVA Primary has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol:

click here for Newham's Fair Access Protocol

If your family arrives in Newham during the school year 2023/2024 and your child needs a school place in the borough, you must complete an In Year form and you are usually given a place within 10 days.

https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/year-admissions/1

The place offered may not be at the school you prefer as that school may not have a suitable place available.

Before submitting an In-Year school application we strongly recommend all families read the autumn 2024 edition of the local authorities ‘Starting Primary School’ guide and find out information about the process.

In Year Admissions for 1st September 2024 - 21st July 2025 (Year Groups: Reception to Year 6):

Please Note: You must complete the SIF form (link above). This form is not an application form so cannot be considered unless an application is made to your local authority.

We recommend you use the Newham School Finder tool to determine the location of your preferred Newham schools and calculate home to school distances.

Nursery Admission

The school manages the admissions procedure for the Nursery and allocates places according to our admissions criteria. Parents have to complete a St Luke's school application form for admission to the Nursery, with this you will have to provide the following;

  • your child’s birth certificate or passport
  • proof of your own address and proof of your child’s address (eg, a child benefit letter or NHS letter).

If the Nursery is full, parents may place their child on the Nursery waiting list by visiting the main school office and filling out a form.

When a space is available you will be contacted by telephone and a home visit will be arranged prior to your child starting Nursery. The Nursery waiting list is arranged by the school.

(The school is currently working towards offering 30 hour provision and for those who are not eligible for this there will be the opportunity to put your 15 hours of sessions together and  buy top up sessions and a hot lunch so their child can attend between 9am and 3pm.)

Please note: children who are allocated places in our Nursery are not guaranteed a place in our Reception class due to the admission process (see 'Starting Primary School' below).

How to register with eAdmissions
(A step by step guide)

If your child was born between 1st September 2014 and 31 August 2015, you will need to apply for a secondary school place for September 2025.

If your child lives in Newham you will need to apply via London Borough of Newham. But if your child lives outside Newham, but you want him or her to go to school in Newham, you will need to apply through the local authority in the borough you live in .

We recommend that the families of all of our year 6 pupils attend as many of the Open Days and Open Evening at the schools across Newham before making a decision what schools to name as a preference.

To maximise your opportunities of getting a place at one of your preferred secondary schools name six schools with at least one being you local school.

Remember, you must apply for a place, even if your child:

  • Has a brother or sister attending the school;
  • Lives in the school's priority area (for Sarah Bonnell or Chobham Academy only)
  • Attends a link school (for Stratford School Academy only)

    OR
  • They have a brother or sister who attends the junior school
